Surry Hills is agencies, startups and small studios in terraces and converted warehouses. The businesses are young, the equipment is mostly laptops, and the building access is the worst of anywhere we collect — narrow stairs, no lift, no dock, and a loading zone shared with a cafe.

Kinsoft collects and securely destroys end-of-life hardware across Surry Hills, Redfern, Darlinghurst, Chippendale, Waterloo and Moore Park.

What makes a Surry Hills collection different

Terrace stairs set the method. Two or three narrow flights means hand-carrying in small loads. We bring the people rather than pretending a trolley will work.

Companies fold and equipment is orphaned. A startup winding up leaves laptops with no owner and nobody responsible for the data on them. Somebody still has an obligation, and it is usually the last director standing.

Agencies hold client material. Campaign assets, customer lists and unreleased work sit on machines covered by client contracts that outlast the agency relationship.

Everything is a laptop with an SSD. Encrypted SSDs need firmware Secure Erase rather than an overwrite pass, and the certificate should say which was used.

Secure data destruction

Drives are wiped to DoD 5220.22-M by default, with NIST 800-88 and the Australian ISM available. SSDs use firmware-level Secure Erase. Certificates record make, model, serial, standard and verification per device. Full detail on our e-waste removal and data destruction page.

We’re winding the company up. Who should the certificate name?

The entity being wound up, so it forms part of the closure record. We will issue it to whichever name you need.

Our office is a third-floor terrace with no lift. Can you still do it?

Yes. It is the most common building type here and we staff the job accordingly.

Are encrypted laptops still worth wiping?

Yes. Encryption protects a lost laptop; it does not prove destruction. A Secure Erase on the certificate does.
